I’m not crying, you’re crying.
Lady Gaga is using her music to reveal sweet details about her relationship with fiancé Michael Polansky. The pop star is gearing up to release her forthcoming album, Mayhem, on March 7, but ahead of its release, she shared that one of the album tracks has a touching connection to Polanksy and the way he proposed to her.
As she told fans at Spotify’s Little Monster Press Conference, now simulcast on Spotify’s TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, Mayhem‘s “Blade of Grass” reflects an intimate moment she and Polansky had in their backyard, during which he asked her how he should propose when the time came.
“[‘Blade of Grass’] is about when Michael proposed to me…we were in the backyard [and] he asked, ‘If I proposed to you one day, what am I supposed to do?’ and I said, ‘You can just get a blade of grass and wrap it around my finger’…and he did actually propose to me with these green bands,” Gaga said. Now, the pop star wears a ring that looks like a piece of grass, in addition to her engagement ring.
Gaga has talked about her and Polansky’s wedding and proposal details on more than a few occasions. During her Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance in October, she hinted that there’s a small chance she and her fiancé might elope and get takeout after. “We actually talk about going to the courthouse just the two of us and ordering Chinese food,” Gaga told Kimmel. “Knowing me, also, it could become like a circus with unicorns.”
Polansky ultimately proposed to Gaga after a day of rock climbing, explaining that “he proposed to me right after my birthday, so my birthday passed and I was like, ‘Well, I thought he was going to propose but then maybe…’”
Gaga continued, “We were just walking back to the room and talking and he said…it was very Michael, to ask me if he could ask me. He wanted to know if it was ok to propose before he proposed and I was like, ‘Yes! It’s so OK!’”
